Jaya Prasad

Jaya Prasad is a highly experienced sustainability and governance advisor with expertise advising mining and energy companies in legal, corporate governance, and sustainability matters. Currently serving as Senior Sustainability Advisor and Assistant Company Secretary for New Hope Group, an Australian coal, energy and export company, Jaya provides strategic guidance to the New Hope (ASX:NHC) Board on corporate governance compliance, sustainability and climate-related compliance and operational legal matters. Jaya’s career spans roles as both an in-house and private practice lawyer, advising clients in the energy, resources, and renewables sectors. She has worked across both Queensland and Western Australia with experience advising on transactions, projects, and governance matters for listed and private companies. With prior experience at Herbert Smith Freehills, Dalrymple Bay Infrastructure, Bravus (part of the Adani Group), and KPMG, Jaya has built a robust career in corporate governance, sustainability, and legal advisory.
Jaya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce/Laws (Honours) from the University of Queensland. Jaya was the Secretary for Young Mining Professionals Brisbane from 2022 to 2024 and the founding Secretary for Women in Sustainable Energy and Resources, stepping down in mid-2024. In 2024, Jaya was awarded the Queensland Law Society’s Excellence in Law Emerging Leader Award and recognised as an Outstanding Achiever and Rising Star of the Governance Top 100 Finalists.
Jaya is passionate about fostering sustainability practices and developing innovative strategies for long-term business success, particularly in fossil fuel industries navigating complex regulatory and environmental challenges.
